What Are You Living For?

Last Sunday during worship we talked all about Heaven! We discussed the truths about what the present Heaven is as well as what we believe the New Heaven and New Earth will one day be like. It has now been four days since our gathering on Sunday and my hope is that we have all been able to live with an eternal mindset. We know that one day, Jesus Christ will return and when He does, He will come to destroy the present Heaven and present Earth with fire (2 Peter 3). The question I would like us all to ponder today is simply, are you truly living with an eternal mindset? Have you forgotten what we discussed Sunday because of the worries of the world and the busyness of your life? Remember, our lives and time spent on Earth are only a millimeter on a never-ending ruler of time. With that said, are you living with eternity in mind? What are you living for? Is it yourself? Your family? Your kids? Your job? Your retirement? Your comfort? Or are you living for God and His Kingdom?

I have been reminded often in the last couple weeks of what a true disciple’s life consists of. Listen to the words of Jesus in Matthew 16: 24-27. Jesus says, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.”  A true disciple lives not for the present day, but they live with eternity in mind.

Let us all follow the extremely difficult example of Jesus Christ. Let’s crucify ourselves every single day. Let’s not live for the world or it’s pleasures or comforts. Let’s not lose sight that our lives on earth are but a breath. Be encouraged by the words of Paul in Romans 8:17-18, “…if indeed we suffer with Him…we may also be glorified with Him. I consider that our present sufferings are not comparable to the glory that will be revealed in us.”

Is crucifying ourselves easy or pleasant? NO! But it can’t even compare to the glory that will be revealed when Jesus Christ returns.

Let’s live as Christ called us to because Jesus is coming soon!
