Dear God,
On this National Day of Prayer we have heard your call to us to “make every effort to keep the unity” and we agree with your will and seek you so our country can be a land of peace. You tell us in your word that, “blessed are the peacemakers for they will called sons of God.” Because we your children desire to reflect the character of our Father we ask that you would empower us with the gifts needed to walk each day as peacemakers. May this quest for peace and unity begin with us who are calling out to you today.
We know as a country that we need to come together in unity. We see a land divided in so many ways: Red/Blue, Coast/Heartland, Rich/Poor Liberal/Conservative, Progressive/Traditional. We see a land dealing with racism, sexism, ageism, idolatry, lying, deceit and character assassination. Faithful Father, forgive our nation for its many sins of division. Forgive our nation for not acknowledging Your authority and for compromising Your truth. Draw this nation back to the truth of Your word.
God, we also recognize that we have a powerful enemy – the evil one – who is loving the strife and dissention that is so prevalent in our country. In this day we pray against him and the forces of evil and all the ones charged with holding this nation in darkness, brokenness, and despair. We ask that your holy power – that your righteousness – that your goodness – that your light – will prevail. We ask that as a nation will have eyes to see your truth and we will all come together around that. On this day we seek You as our source of unity.
Father, will you plant a bold movement of unity within our heart. We ask that we your people would not be the source of friction and disunity in our country. So, convict each of us by Your Spirit tof those places in our lives where we are embracing division over unity. Would you forgive us, please forgive us, and plant Your love in our hearts so that we, the children of God, we would be leading the way to unity in this country. Help us to make every effort to keep the unity : if we must turn the other cheek, if we must go the extra mile, if we must forgive as you forgave us, enable us by Your Spirit to bring the bond of peace. We ask in this day that we would truly be known by your name as peacemakers and that one day we will return to being the United…United States of America.
In Jesus Name we Pray,
Amen
